Are You Practicing the Law of Attraction?

by Healthy Gay Lifestyles

The law of attraction is essentially a belief or theory, that “like attracts like,” and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, you attract positive or negative results. Basically you attract into your life whatever you think about, whether you want it or not. So if you “truly” believe your thoughts, you literally have the power to consciously and deliberately choose what you want in life.  What kind of money do you want to make?

While the law of attraction has received quite a bit of publicity these days, the concept has been around for centuries and has been known (and used successfully) by many great minds throughout history. It has been written in books that there is evidence the law of attraction was used by Beethoven, Einstein, and even Jesus. Many wonder why it works, and there are reams upon reams of anecdotal evidence confirming it does.

Two recent popular books promoting law of attraction are The Secret (2007) by Rhonda Byrne, and Esther and Jerry Hick’s book Money and the Law of Attraction: Learning to Attract Health, Wealth & Happiness (New York Times Best Seller list Aug 2008).  The Secret reveals how you can change every aspect of your life. You can turn any weakness or suffering into strength, power, unlimited abundance, health and joy. The book Money, and the Law of Attraction: Learning to Attract Wealth, Health, and Happiness presents the teaching of the non-physical consciousness named Abraham. The book explains that the two subjects most chronically affected by the powerful law of attraction are financial and physical well-being. Both books offer very unique reasons to think positively and teach that we have the power to change our lives for the better.

We’re All Made Up of the Same Energy

We’re all taught in school that all matter, whether physical objects or living creatures, is made up of the same energy called atoms. The theory is that this same energy making up atoms is also a frequency created by our thoughts. Thoughts are magnetic energy and create a frequency similar to a radio or smart phone. As you go through your day thinking, your thoughts are sent out into the world and attract like things on the same frequency. Picture yourself as a human transmission tower emitting powerful waves of thoughts that are changing the dynamics of your life each and every day.

You Can Control & Change Your Thoughts

Most people think about what they don’t want instead of thinking about what they do want. As gay men, when we walk down the street, some of us think about what might happen if we run into a homophobe and how they might react to us. At work some of us think about how our co-workers might respond to us. When we go to the theater or to the market with other gay men, we wonder if people recognize we’re gay. But what happens if we “stop” thinking about what we’re afraid of and “only” think about what we want?

Now I will admit it takes some practice to be aware of our thoughts and to consciously learn to change them. But luckily as humans we can discern and choose to think about what we want. One way to quiet the mind and get control of your thoughts is to consider practicing meditation. Once you start to catch and change your thoughts, you are on your way to creating and obtaining the life you want.

Persistence Pays

Benjamin Franklin said “energy and persistence conquer all things”. Once you understand how the law of attraction works then its up to you to transmit even more powerful thoughts by adding feeling and clarity to what you are wanting. You deserve all the good things life has to offer so use persistent thinking to summon them to you. If you’re having a bad day, try to think of events or memories that make you feel good to shift your paradigm back to attractive thinking. Think of who you love, or bring back fun or happy times that make you smile.

Writing down your goals and looking at them every day can help you stay focused on what you’re trying to attract. Another way to stay on focus is to place pictures of what you want where you will frequently see them.

You Must Whole Heartedly Believe

When you really start to have conscious thoughts (imagination, visualization) about what you want to create or attract, you literally change (I mean physically) and as a consequence of these changes (thoughts), you start to have a new belief system, which determines a new attitude, which then determines new actions (acting, speaking, thinking), which give you different results (a.k.a. getting what you wanted to create or attract).

Think about what it is you truly believe. Do your thoughts lack when it comes to what you desire? These doubtful thoughts can be from how you grew up and can keep you from attaining the life that you want. Discover the thoughts that could be keeping you from “full” belief in the law of attraction and from your best life.

Accept and Receive

Be grateful for the things you have and you will attract more of them. Use your imagination to “literally” start seeing yourself already having what you want. When you accept all possibilities your subconscious mind has nothing to resist and becomes free to accept the new choice you are presenting it with. Make peace with all that is happening to you and accept the rewards that come your way.

We all work hard to make things happen for ourselves, and then when the world offers then to us, often we don’t take them. Use the law of attraction to bring what you want, then let go of past habits and happily receive what you deserve.
